This is all very interesting to me…
While I understand the level of data that’s been collected may shock some people, I feel like people have been talking about how Facebook has been making their money — targeted ads via user data, for years now. While I think we’ve seen how this can be abused with the Russian meddling, though I don’t necessarily seeing this having that big of a long term impact.
What I can see happening is users becoming even savvy-er on where/who/how long they give their data to someone. Just look at other companies capitalizing on this, Mozilla just released a “Facebook container” extension to allow users to control how their information is shared. While I think no one wanted to see this happen, I definitely think this is a teachable moment and Facebook, along with society will learn from it.
