Can rest look different for different people?

Something Cool I Saw Today…

Thoughts…

Hi there,

I know for me it’s been a weird month of sharing content. That said, I’ve been taking some rest here and there because I’ve been growing in other areas.

But the constant battle I have is the gnawing question that asks, “Am I doing enough?” and why or why not?

In a society where everything can be distilled down to content, it makes it harder to be intentional about what you choose to release and what you choose to keep to yourself.

Especially as I look back on the past three months, I realize that I’ve made a great amount of progress, while also picking my spots and resting accordingly.

For instance, if you haven’t seen it, I published a journaling document to help people live their best life instead of just hearing me ramble about it. Also, as you’re reading this, I’ve stealthily kicked off Season 3 of my podcast.

So to say I’ve just been resting because I have been writing emails is probably misleading — it’s more like rotating the crops on different plots of land. Sure things might be fallow over here, but just waiting until the seeds start sprouting.

What I’ll leave you with today is this:

You don’t need an excuse to rest. Most times when we’re at our best, it’s because we chose rest over everything else.

SHORT Rest Is a Right, Not a Reward for Productivity [Tiny Trips]
In this brief article, Jackie Homan reflects on the pandemic and how it’s led to many in the workforce re-evaluating their relationship to not only work but more importantly, rest. In fact, Jackie explores the idea that maybe we should decouple rest from work altogether. I think this is a great read if you’d like to challenge the connotations you have behind both rest and work/productivity.

LONG Why Restorative Rest Makes You More Productive And How To Achieve It [Trello]
In this longer blog piece, our author, Emily Whitten opens with a brief exploration into the benefits of rest, such as combatting burnout and increases in productivity. While she doesn’t hit anyone over the head with why rest is good, Emily takes care to outline some practical ways to implement more and better rest into one’s day. Some thorough considerations are put out there including setting rest goals or practicing self-care habits. A great piece for those looking for tangible takeaways on their journey for rest.
