Thoughts…

Hi there,

I don’t know why, but death is such a hard concept for me to accept at times…

This week, I find myself thinking mostly about the deaths of people I’ve never met, yet somehow their existence has impacted me so much that I still grieve as if I’ve known them.

I think of Tim Bergling (aka Avicii), whose music inspired a generation to party and in many ways live their best life. It’s astonishing to realize that he never even made it to his 32nd birthday.

I think of Michael K. Williams, an actor who has donned some of the more iconic characters in television history. His sudden and unexpected death has left me and many others in dismay about how such an amazing talent could be gone so soon.

Finally, I think about Mac Miller, whose death three years ago this week still does sit right with me. I don’t know if it was his music, the pieces of his personality that you could see in his interviews/appearances, or something else, but growing up Mac really connected with me.

When I think of these three, my first thought is that death came for all of them too soon. But that’s the thing, death does not have a clock — death comes and goes as it pleases.

And maybe there’s a lesson about death; there might not always be closure, but at the very least there is permanence. And with that permanence, there comes choice. I choose to live life with the hope that maybe, just maybe, when it’s my time that I’ve impacted people as profoundly as these three men have.

And I hope you do too. No matter how hard things get, choose to live. Live freely, live bravely, and live with joy.
